Promoting Constructive Capital in Bulgaria and North Macedonia

Building Bridges for Euro-Atlantic Integration, Connectivity, and Economic Security

Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine has revived the vision of a strong, stable, and united Europe, underpinned by mutual political, security, and economic interests. The European Union (EU) has reaffirmed its unequivocal support for the integration of the Western Balkans and the Eastern Neighborhood countries into the EU. This opens a window of opportunity for Bulgaria and North Macedonia to fulfil this promise together and reinforce their economies and societies, making the EU and NATO stronger and more resilient in the process.

This report identifies opportunities for unexplored economic potential within the framework of bilateral cooperation, and provides a comprehensive set of policy recommendations for promoting constructive capital within and between Bulgaria and North Macedonia. Drawing upon consultations with relevant stakeholders, including business leaders and associations, these recommendations lay the foundation for a joint strategy to improve the business environment, invigorate economic relations, and promote shared prosperity.
