I undertook a hybrid, three-month internship with the Law Program. Throughout this experience, I contributed to several multi-national projects on pressing legal policy issues, including child trafficking, promotion of fundamental rights, foreign influence in digital disinformation, protection of children in conflict with the law and mutual recognition of sentences in the EU.

My tasks were incredibly rewarding and comprised policy research, stakeholder mapping, event planning and case law analysis. Another of my key responsibilities was developing a proposal for an upcoming EU project call, which allowed me to practice drafting and gain experience in the day-to-day operations of think tanks and EU-funded NGOs. I was also particularly privileged to engage with several projects creating cutting-edge AI tools aimed at enhancing evidence collection and reducing bias in judicial decision-making.

The highlight of my experience was the fantastic events I attended. These ranged from interviews with justice professionals and anti-human trafficking stakeholder focus groups to expert panels on digital disinformation and AI regulation and meetings with diplomats. Gaining practical policy and project insights from these practitioners and government officials, as well as NGO analysts from across Europe, was invaluable. My internship also coincided with CSD's Global Defense Dialogue Series, allowing me to hear the analysis of leading security experts on the cyber and physical threats posed by China and Russia, as well as the challenges currently faced by NATO.

On a personal note, living in Bulgaria, even for a short period of time, was an absolute joy. I fell in love with Sofia, along with its rich culture, amazing food, welcoming people, and beautiful nature. I am so grateful for this experience and cannot thank the Law Program team enough for their support and guidance!
