I had the opportunity to complete a three-month internship at the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) from June to September 2025. As a Master’s student in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies, this experience allowed me to explore radicalization and violent extremism dynamics from an Eastern European perspective, gaining invaluable insights from leading experts and privileged sources.
From the very beginning, I felt welcomed at the office. My research designs were valued, and I had the chance to work closely with seasoned analysts and field specialists. During my tenure, I primarily conducted literature reviews and drafted analytical reports contributing to a proposal for the European Commission on youth empowerment in countering online extremism.
Beyond the professional aspects, CSD fosters a vibrant and engaging environment. The think tank regularly organizes social activities, from after-work gatherings to day-long excursions, which bring together interns from diverse backgrounds. These moments not only helped me settle in quickly but also sparked enriching discussions on our respective research topics.
Looking back, I can only share positive feedback on this experience. CSD truly fulfils its mission of bridging academia and policy-making, offering a stimulating, flexible, and socially inclusive setting in which interns can thrive both professionally and personally.
