Vincent Sanfedele
B.A. in Political Science, Princeton University
As an intern at CSD, I had the opportunity to contribute to the Energy Security and Climate team under the expert guidance of my supervisor, Nadejda Gantcheva, who provided thoughtful, insightful, and critical feedback on my work. During my internship, I was responsible for completing three long-term tasks: a compendium of best practices on energy storage, grid modernization, and wind energy designed for policymakers and industry leaders; and two policy briefs on energy storage and wind energy in Bulgaria. Short-term tasks included compiling and formatting CVs and project references for upcoming tender applications, performing data collection using Eurostat to support a sectoral analysis of Bulgaria’s energy trade and consumption, and defining numerous measures taken in and by EU cities to alleviate energy poverty in support of alleviation efforts in Sofia.
CSD offers a flexible work environment, welcoming atmosphere, and lively office culture. Through weekly staff meetings, I learned about the inner workings of a public policy think tank, as well as the necessity of fundraising and outreach. Outside of the office, CSD provided numerous cultural enrichment opportunities, including a documentary screening followed by discussion with Chairman Shentov and a guided day-trip to the Rila Monastery, as well as access to various virtual events. Among them, my favorite to attend was the latest edition of the Global Defense Dialogue featuring General Philip Breedlove. Overall, I found my experience at CSD to be highly professionally and personally enriching.
