I did my internship at the Center for the Study of Democracy as a mandatory internship for my studies to gain my first work experience abroad. As an intern, you are assigned to one of the following teams for the duration of your internship: Security, Energy and Climate, Sociology, Law or Economics. I was in the Energy and Climate team during my internship. The people at the Center for the Study of Democracy are very open-minded and always do their best to make you feel comfortable. The working atmosphere is constructive and respectful. I mainly worked on projects related to Russian influence in Germany. This included activities such as literature research and preparing databases. However, every intern also can spontaneously take on responsibilities from other teams. For example, I also assisted in the security team and contributed to a policy brief on measures to improve the EU-wide prosecution of cybercrime. In addition, workshops were offered for interns to introduce them to the topics and current debates. There were also many CSD-hosted events where you could network with experts from all over the world and listen to inspiring panel discussions. Sofia is a great city to spend your free time in. As many other interns were at the CSD at the same time as me, we went on lots of trips together in and around Sofia. Overall, I can say that the Center for the Study of Democracy provided me with an excellent insight into the work of a think tank, where I could gain a lot of valuable experience. In conclusion, I recommend an internship at the Center for the Study of Democracy and look back on to my internship with pleasure.
