The efficiency of Bulgaria's system of arms export control has been recognized and appreciated by its partners, Deputy Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov said at the opening of a Sofia seminar.A two-day venue runs in the capital city under the heading 'On the Road to NATO and EU Membership: Efficient Legislation on Arms Export Control'. The event is organized by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, the Stability Pact for South East Europe and the Center for the Study of Democracy. Since the beginning of this year the Interdepartmental Commission for Export Control has intercepted some 5% of arms deals submitted for reconsideration, the deputy foreign minister announced. Bulgaria joined NATO in April 2004 and aspires to accede to the European Union on 1 January 2007.
