About 5% of the business transactions that have been probed by the Interdepartmental Committee for Control on Arms Trade have been checked because of inaccuracies in official papers, said Tuesday Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister. Nikolay Milkov took part in a two-day seminar on effective export control legislation, organized by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the South Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of SALW and the Center for Study of Democracy. In his words, lack of original end recipient certificates and the destination's degree of political sensitiveness are among the most common causes for errors in transaction documents.Milkov said about 50-60 transactions have been proposed on each session of the Committee, which sits twice a month. In his words, Bulgaria has built a system for arms export control, which has been recognized and estimated by the country's partners in terms of effectiveness.
