The actual and potential corruption in Bulgaria has dropped compared with 1998-2004 period, however, its presence in the Bulgarians' social life is still evident, the Center for Democracy monitoring said cited by Makfax.The average number of business deals concluded monthly on the corruptive basis totaled 130.000 in 2005, which marks 50% drop compared against 1998.Majority of the corruptive deals has been executed in the private sector; nevertheless the study indicates a decreasing trend, especially in the bank loan-related operations.The decreasing trend in corruptive practices is attributed to the development of the market-related institutions, as well as to the stabile economic growth of the country.Political corruption draws greater attention by the international community as the date of Bulgarian accession to the EU approaches.
