Biography
Todor Galev works for more than 20 years on socio-economic and sociological studies with a focus on Bulgaria, South Eastern Europe and the EU. Recently he has focused on analyses of foreign economic influence in Europe, disinformation and media ownership, illicit financing, state capture and anticorruption, while during the years he worked on energy sector governance, innovation policies and military-civil cooperation in high-tech branches.
Todor is experienced in using research methods for integrated analysis of sociological results, statistics and open public data. After joining the Center for the Study of Democracy in 2009, he has worked on projects, funded by the EU (FP7, H2020, HE, DG Research, JRC-IPTS, IPA), World Bank, the U.S. State Department, national ministries, private multinational companies, international not-for-profit organisations, etc. He is experienced in managing and implementing research and analytical tasks, incl. academic and policy research, design of surveys and qualitative studies (focus-groups, in-depth interviews, participatory approaches, foresight approaches, etc.), implementation of complex statistical analyses, preparation of scientific papers and policy-research reports. Todor has also over 12 years of experience in providing consultancy and advisory services to Bulgarian, Serbian, Ukrainian and EU policy-makers.
Before joining CSD, Todor defended his PhD in Sociology at the Technology Studies Group, Institute of Sociology – BAS, where he worked as research fellow with academic specialization is in the field of sociology of innovation and science technology studies. At the academy, Todor participated in several research projects within FP5, FP6 and FP7 of the European Commission, research grant programs of Sofia University, Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, etc. His professional background included also teaching of lectures and seminars in the field of science technology studies and social research methods at Sofia University and Plovdiv University. He has been also member of the European Science Communication Network (ESConet), which organises training courses for European scientists. He has been also member of the Bulgarian Sociological Association and in 2006-2009 - member of its Executive Board.
