Biography
Roberta Koleva is a social anthropologist and an Analyst with the Center for the Study of Democracy’s Security Program. Her work and research interests focus on the anthropology of post-socialism, political economy, nationalism studies, and urban anthropology, with an emphasis on Southeastern Europe and critical theory. At CSD she contributes to projects on state-sponsored crime, threats to civil society in Bulgaria, and the rise of radicalisation and far-right movements in the Western Balkans.
Prior to joining CSD, she participated in research projects at Central European University, New Bulgarian University, the European Commission’s Joint Research Center, and as an independent researcher. Additionally, she has worked as an editor and journalist for Bulgarian and international media outlets, including BBC Knowledge magazine, NGO Portal, and Balkans In-site, and is the creator of AntropoLogica, the first Bulgarian podcast dedicated to anthropology and social theory. She was also part of Creative Europe Desk Bulgaria’s team.
