Biography

Miroslav Zafirov is Senior Associate Fellow at CSD, focusing on the topics of great power politics, democratic resilience and economic security. He currently serves as a Political and Liaison Affairs Officer at UNSCO in Jerusalem.

He has previously worked at the UN Mission in Iraq being in charge of the National Reconciliation strategy and Shi'a Political and Religious Authorities. Between 2011 and 2014, Miroslav served as a Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the State of Qatar. He has eleven years of experience as an MENA expert at the MFA of Bulgaria.

Miroslav Zafirov is a graduate in History of the Middle East from St. Petersburg State University’s Faculty for Eastern Studies and has a degree in Hebrew and Middle Eastern Studies from New Bulgarian University. He has recently started his PhD research at Sofia University, with his research primarily devoted to topics such as political thoughts in the Middle East and history of Shi'a Islam. Miroslav has been a guest lecturer and participant in events at NYUAD, Fletcher School, King's College, St. Andrews College, The Moshe Dayan Centre at Tel Aviv University and Ezra Centre at Haifa University.
