Mariyan Sabev

LL.B. in International and European Law, The Hague University


Mariyan Sabev holds an LL.B. in International and European Law from The Hague University and is currently pursuing a degree in National Security and Defense at the G.S. Rakovski Military Academy in Sofia.

His research interests reside in the domains of the prevention of radicalization and violent extremism, dissecting the modus operandi of organized crime and financial flows in criminal markets, as well as reform in anti-corruption legislation and recovery of illegal assets. His analytical skills include the efficient implementation of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, proficiency in evaluation metrics and approaches and data analysis. Mariyan contributes to the development and implementation of vocational trainings and capacity building for law enforcement, judicial, prison and probation authorities and civil society, fostering synergies and promoting tailored response to various social phenomena.

Since joining CSD’s Security Program in early 2018, Mariyan has contributed to and coordinated the implementation of various projects funded under H2020, ISF-P, JUST, CERV and DAPHNE. He was selected as a national expert within several studies commissioned by the European Parliament and the Commission and contributed to the evaluation of several EU agencies and strategic policies.

Mariyan is also the Head of Communications at CSD. His role involves the strategic deployment of CSD’s research, ultimately contributing to increased publicity for CSD’s impact on policy making in the Balkans and in Europe.

Before joining CSD, Mariyan worked as a consultant at two of the leading companies in the country, active in the field of EU’s Cohesion Policy, laying the foundations of his expertise in the conceptualization and management of EU funded projects. During 2011-2012 he served at the International Legal Cooperation department of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria.
