Biography

John Bussey is a Senior Associate Fellow with the Center for the Study of Democracy’s Economic Program. He is also is assistant managing editor and executive business editor of The Wall Street Journal and writes a weekly column on global business trends for the paper. His previous positions with the Journal include reporter in the Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit bureaus; features editor on the Page One staff; Tokyo bureau chief; economics editor; foreign editor; editor-in-chief of the Far Eastern Economic Review and The Wall Street Journal Asia-based in Hong Kong; deputy managing editor; and Washington bureau chief.

His staff won three Pulitzer Prizes and six Overseas Press Club awards for international coverage. Bussey contributed to a package of articles on the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that also received the Pulitzer Prize. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a regular commentator on television and radio. Bussey is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Dartmouth College.
