Biography
Atanas Rusev has over twelve years of experience in security research, policy analysis and consultancy spanning both governmental and non-government sectors. He currently leads research and policy evaluation activities within the Security Program, focusing on EU criminal justice, security, and home affairs. His research specializes in organized crime and criminal markets, with a particular emphasis on trafficking in human beings, migrant smuggling, illicit tobacco trade, extortion, loansharking, drug trafficking and drug markets, organised VAT frauds, corruption and organised crime, money laundering and confiscated criminal assets. Dr. Rusev is the author of many publications on the financing of organised crime, organised crime threat assessment, corruption and organised crime and confiscation of criminal assets. He has also contributed to a number of evaluations and studies commissioned by the European Commission and the European Parliament, addressing key issues in home affairs and criminal justice.
