Communications and Media Officer

CSD is seeking a Communications and Media Officer to help shape how our work is presented to the world. This role combines strategic communication, social media management, content creation, media relations, and event management and communication, offering the opportunity to work closely with leading experts and contribute to policy discussions with real impact.

About The Role

As Communications and Media Officer, you will play a central role in translating complex research and policy analysis into clear, engaging, and accessible messages for the organization’s main channels and key audiences. You will manage CSD’s digital presence, support media outreach, and help ensure that our research, events, and ideas reach the audiences that matter – locally and globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Social media and digital communications: Develop and manage content across social media platforms LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X /former Twitter/, Bluesky, and YouTube, ensuring a consistent and engaging presence while tailoring content to different platforms and audiences
  • Content creation and storytelling: Create, edit, and adapt content – including short videos, visual mterials, and newsletters – that clearly communicate CSD’s research, policy work, and institutional activities
  • Strategic messaging and branding: Support the development and implementation of communication strategies, helping maintain a coherent tone, messaging, and visual identity across all channels
  • Media relations and outreach: Maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets; respond to media inquiries and support interviews and press events; draft press releases, and media briefings.
  • Event management and communication: Play an active role in the planning, communication, and visibility of CSD’s public events, including conferences, workshops, panel discussions, and roundtables.
  • Internal coordination and communication: Work closely with researchers, project teams, and management to plan communication activities, align messaging, and support project-specific communication needs

Who We’re Looking For

  • A confident and versatile communicator with a Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field (a Master’s degree is an advantage)
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in communications, media, PR, or a related role (e.g. in a news outlet, agency, NGO, or similar organization)
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Bulgarian, with a strong ability to adapt tone and style to different formats and audiences
  • Proven experience in social media management and digital content production, including planning, publishing, and performance monitoring
  • Practical familiarity with content management systems and digital tools; experience with graphic design, video editing, or website management is a strong asset
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in public policy, research, and democratic governance, with the ability to quickly understand and communicate complex topics
