Center for the Study of Democracy

The Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) is a European policy institute combining knowledge on economics, law, criminology, political science, and sociology. Its cross-cutting competences enable CSD to deliver on complex projects requiring both process and substantive knowledge, and impact on policy and civil society. CSD’s mission is to build bridges between scholars and policy makers.


The role

CSD is hiring a highly motivated data inspired analyst who will monitor and analyse various media sources (online news outlets, social media) using specialised media monitoring, analytics and social listening solutions and OSINT tools. You will be engaged in collecting and analysing structured and unstructured corporate and statistical data, using both open and proprietary sources to uncover hidden links between media, companies and politically exposed persons, influence networks, and sanctions evasion.

You will also create complex Boolean queries and conduct research based on specific criteria; interpret quantitative & qualitative data and create visually appealing graphs & pivot charts; provide in-depth analyses of actors, narratives, tactics and techniques of foreign information manipulation and interference, as well as analyses of tools and enablers of foreign political and economic influence; produce reports with valuable, actionable insights and present the findings to various audiences and clients at national and international events; contribute to the development of an automated tools for identification, collection and analysis of online media content based on specific criteria; convert complex data and findings into understandable tables, graphs, and written reports. Last, but not least, you will assist a technical team of software engineers in automation of media content analysis.

Skills required

  • high level of computer skills; professional background and/or knowledge of data analytics would be an advantage;
  • university degree in either Data Science or interdisciplinary subjects such as Economics, Sociology, or International Relations is considered a plus;
  • advanced knowledge of English;
  • strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to think critically and draw meaningful conclusions from numbers, trends and data;
  • ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and demonstrate good organisational skills;
  • capacity for teamwork, collaboration and proactive self-development;
  • understanding of complex political and socio-economic information, with a good knowledge of events and factors shaping European policy agendas would be considered an asset.
